Waterpolo is a sport which originated in England during the 1870's. It's international
popularity grew rapidly, becoming a major sport in a number of European countries
and the U.S. and Australia.
This aquatic sport consists of two teams competing against one another in a swimming pool. The object of the game is to score a goal by getting a bouyant ball into the opposing teams netted goal, each one at facing ends of the playing area.

The
game sadly gets little attention in this country, with the exception of the
not-so recent coverage of Prince
William, which made Page 3 in various national tabloids. Overseas, however,
the sport attacts fair coverage in some countries - namely Malta - it is the
national sport; in others it is perhaps taken a
little too seriously...
